On 23 May 1618 Protestant nobles in Prague threw two Catholic imperial regents and their secretary out of a high window of Prague Castle. All three survived the fall of about 21 metres. Catholics credited divine help; a later, much-repeated story says they landed on a dung heap, though that detail may be propaganda. The event helped spark the Thirty Years' War.
